The election is over and we are not faced with another 4 years at least of Donald J. Trump.  I just do not understand why a reasonable educated person could vote for him, so last night I invited Richard S over for a drink and to sit outside on a beautiful Florida moonlit night to talk and smoke a cigar.

In the past, before the election we had a mutual understanding to just not talk politics, but last night I just felt I had to understand the WHY of his vote.  We didn’t talk a long time because I felt he felt uncomfortable about the whole thing.  I got the impression that he was a little concerned about the cabinet selections of the last couple of days but other then that he feels that Trump should be given the chance.  I tried to not be confrontational but I did quiz him on the why he could vote for a person, he being of high morals, that was so directly opposite.  He really had no answer other then to state that millions of Christians voted for him.  To me this was no answer.  Then he brought up the fact that people were sick of the high prices, like gas and groceries.  He said gas prices were $1.89/ gallon 4 years ago. I agreed that gas prices at the height of the pandemic was 1.89 but no was going anywhere and people were working from home, those that still had job.  4 years ago in December, however gas was $2.13/gal which was 17% less than 2019 which would have been 2.47/gal.  Gas at the pumps now is $2.84/gal.

Overall I did not come to any understanding of the why other then the fact that most of the people who voted for Trump had no reason other then the fact that the propaganda that they have consumed has convinced them that life was much better 4 or 5 years ago then it is today.  He also didn’t have any answer as to what period of history constituted the period that MAGA wanted to return to.  It is just so frustrating to know that these people may very well have traded in our way of life and democracy itself for the price of a gallon of gas or a dozen eggs.
