Boat caretaker for a week

Today I took Gary and Bob to the airports in the Enterprise rental car. They will be back next week then we start the rest of the trip. Offshore to Marathon, then over to Ft Myers.

Stopped the Megliori Amici and picked up Tony. We had some dinner at the Thirsty Turtle in Juno Beach. Then back to the boat via the Winn Dixie. Pretty lonely tonight not much on the TV. We pick up some really weird channels. Reading time.

The Flag I Knew but Never Thought About.

I’m a product of the South. I grew up a southern white boy in the 50’s.  I went to all white schools and lived in all white neighborhoods.  I had all white friends and dated all white girls.  I read books about the civil war exploits of confederate soldiers.  I watched movies dramatizing the antebellum south. I watched TV shows like “The Gray Ghost” glorifying the exploits of John Singleton Mosby (Mosby’s Raiders).  I listened to my grandmother talking about her father, my great grandfather, who fought under Stonewall Jackson at Chancellorsville.  Yes, I’m a true “son of the confederacy”.  To me the Confederate flag was  a sign of a proud heritage and second only to the American flag.   The problem was I never thought about the other side of the meaning of that flag.   We in the south, and when I say that, I mean we white people in the south grew up glorifying the confederacy. I'm Living on Your Dollar

Ok, I have a confession to make.  I am living entirely on your tax dollars.  Does that piss you off? Yes, I am living in Key West on my boat taking pics of sunsets every night on you.  I get my SS check and my military retirement check every month without fail.  I have my medicare and my tricare which pays 100% of my medical.  That's right no co-pays. I love my medicare and SS and I hope it is there for my children when they get my age.  My concern is that it will not be.  There are two philosophies being presented in this upcoming election. With Obama it will remain much the same.  There may be some adjustments such as raising the FICA limit or deleting it all together.  That would mean everyone would pay on all their wages. Currently people who make over $106,800 do not pay FICA for anything over that.  So someone making say $1,000,000 per year would exceed that after the first month of the year and would not have to pay more.
